Why Functional Patterns?ㅤ
In short, because it is the safest and most effective training style that I have ever adopted. ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ
Additionally, FP is the only training methodology with an inverse rate of injury. ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ
What does that mean? ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ
It means that people suffering from scoliosis, strokes, and constant pain are choosing FP to become pain free. ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ
It means that people from CrossFit, Yoga, Orangetheory, and Power Lifting are utilizing FP to get out of pain, and to improve their performance which makes them better athletes.
My story… ㅤ ㅤ
After moving home to Ohio in 2009 I was looking for an alternative to traditional bodybuilding to prepare for another outdoor adventure.ㅤ ㅤ
I had heard about this new training methodology called CrossFit so I gave it a try.ㅤ
It was fun at first and I was good at it (insert ego) which led me to become part of the “competitive side” for the last 4 years.ㅤ ㅤ
Those 4 years left me with spinal compression, severe hip and shoulder pain, and noticeable kyphosis.ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ
I had also developed an unhealthy idea of what training was supposed to be like.
I believed that training for 2+ hours a day was normal, until I was in extreme pain.
Unfortunately that is the mindset for so many.
It wasn’t until I solely focused on Functional Patterns training and concepts did my hip and shoulder pain, compression, and kyphosis started to diminish.
Fast forward 1 year…
Today I woke up pain free.
Now to be transparent the first time I started FP training it didn’t stick. ㅤ ㅤ
I couldn’t stop my habitual training, so my FP practitioner Ryan actually fired me as a client because I wasn’t committed.ㅤ ㅤ
I wasted precious time vacillating between “Functional Bodybuilding” and “Functional Patterns”.
I didn’t understand that you have to be in the right mindset in order to get the benefits from FP.
It was hard for me to slow down and embrace the minutiae of FP.ㅤ
I say this because if you choose this pathway, you will struggle.
You will have to become a problem solver. You will have to put in the work. But, if you follow the pathway, you will be rewarded with..
Pain free living.
Better posture.
Better gait.
Improved athletic performance
Improved self esteem.
You will look better. ㅤ
You will feel better.
So, what are you waiting for?
